Background
Thrive at Five is a company focused on improving early childhood outcomes through community-led approaches. Fortia Insight (previously Economic Research Services Limited) was commissioned to deliver localised research in Redcar and Cleveland, targeting five of the borough’s most deprived wards: Dormanstown, Eston, Grangetown, Kirkleatham and South Bank. The project captured the voices of parents and carers, particularly those not engaged in formal panels or previous research, to understand their experiences, challenges and aspirations. Interviews were conducted in community settings such as family hubs, playgroups, nurseries and refuges.
This research has given a voice to parents and carers whose experiences are often overlooked, offering an authentic understanding of the challenges and strengths within their communities. The findings will help Thrive at Five shape more inclusive, responsive and locally relevant support for families with young children, contributing to better outcomes in early childhood development.
